TGIF - two glasses clinking TGIF

Thank God it's Friday

Evening cocktails at The Yellow Door. Coffee is for working on the thing. This was for putting it down.

It ran from October 2016 to December 2019, and then the room went. The format didn't. It never needed that particular room, which turns out to be the useful part.

There's no date. When there is one, the list hears first, and it'll be a Friday.

A crowded evening at The Yellow Door, glasses in hands, brick walls behind

How it went

  • Friday, after work, downstairs. No programme. Nobody with a microphone. Nobody going round the table with a pitch.
  • Somebody usually brought something. In February 2018 it was cupcakes and a tower of coupes, which is the correct ratio.
  • It ran for three years and a bit.Long enough that people stopped checking whether it was on and simply turned up.

Press for champagne

There was a brass plate in the wall with a red button under it. It's in the photograph. It worked.

A brass plate in a brick wall engraved PRESS FOR CHAMPAGNE, with a red button beneath it and a hand reaching for it

Go on

A tower of stacked coupe glasses on a wooden crate against a brick wall Champagne poured into the top glass of the tower

The coupes are still stacked. Nobody's pressed it in a while.

Nothing's coming.

There's no bar behind that wall any more. The button was never the hard part to rebuild. Put your name down and we'll tell you when there's a room to put it back in. Join the waiting list

112 confirmed Fridays

October 2016 to December 2019. Every solid mark is a Friday with a record behind it. The hollow ones are evenings the archive lists without a date it'll stand behind, so they aren't counted.

201613 evenings

201722 evenings

201841 evenings

201948 evenings

And then nothing, so far.

The archive

22 photographs, from the four evenings somebody remembered to bring a camera to. If you've got better ones, they belong here rather than on your phone.

Send a photograph

We look at it before it goes up. Nothing reaches the page without a person deciding.

Who you met, what got started, what you'd rather we didn't print.

The list

No date. That's the honest position, and a countdown to nothing would be worse. This is who finds out first.
